Beach Cities Robotics Announces New Welders

August, 2003 -- Five members of Beach Cities Robotics Team 294 www.bcrobotics.org finished a TIG welding course at El Camino College.

Last summer RUHS Freshman Marygrace Barron took the welding course. Praxair donated the use of a TIG welder and all the welding supplies, enabling Marygrace to do the welding for the team this past season instead of relying on outside sources. The project was such a success that this summer MCHS Sophomore Ryan Tupper, RUHS Freshman Ashton Munoz, Sophomore Veronica Newman and Senior Armin Balg joined Marygrace, now captain of the team, in the welding class.

Team Mom Cheryl Miller said, "I'm so thrilled that we have another female welder, and plenty of welders to enable us to do all our own in-house welding. Each of these team members helped with the robotics summer daycamp while attending four hours of welding class four nights a week. They really deserve kudos for their dedication and accomplishment."

Major sponsors for Beach Cities Robotics include Northrop Grumman Space Technology, Raytheon and Rent.com.
